Corsets

Corsets can be traced back to history. Years ago, a certain queen ordered women to wear a corset and banned women who have thick waists, and ever since corsets made a huge impact to women and the society. For some a corset is just a simple garment, insignificant and has no bearing whatsoever with what is happening these days, but for countless of women, and men, before and now, this ordinary garment made a very big effect on their lives.

We can see in a lot of old movies that women are forced to wear corsets for aesthetic reasons and to be accepted in the society. Women before are not judged by their educational attainment or the skills and talents that they have but by how small their waist can be. We see women bearing the pain and discomfort that corsets cause them but they do not seem to have a choice.

These days, we still live in a world that is very particularly with appearance, especially with body shape. There are still a lot of people who feel unwanted because of how they look. Though people do not usually wear these garments nowadays, not because the society has suddenly became more accepting, but because we already have other means to look beautiful, and that is through the aid of technology and other scientific advancements.
It is a very sad reality but this issue has still a very long way to go. Even though people are now more educated, there are still a lot of those who have prejudice and those who refuse to change their way of thinking. Now, we do not often see corsets being worn as a means to make women suffer, but they still exist. At present models are seen wearing corsets as a fashion statement and some are used for medical reasons.
